Deck Maintenance Project

This spring add caring for your deck to your spring cleaning list.  With a couple simple steps you can tackle deck maintenance as a weekend project. This project will make your deck feel brand new and ensure it will be in good condition for many summers to come.

STEP 1

Remove all deck clutter.  Our clutter currently includes garden gnomes, miscellaneous car parts and plant supplies.  Find a temporary home for these items.

STEP 2

Pressure wash the entire deck.  If you don’t own a pressure washer you can rent one from someplace like Home Depot at an affordable price.

STEP 3

Give the deck a light sanding by hand with sandpaper or using a small powered sander.

STEP 4

Apply some sort of water sealing product to protect your deck.  There are three categories to choose from; clear, semi transparent and solid stain.  A clear seal doesn’t offer much sun protection but keeps its original wood color.  Semi transparent is well, semi transparent offering some color while still allowing you to see the character of the wood.  This is our pick for the best option.  Solid stain has no transparency and takes on the appearance of paint.

We recommend taking on this project every 3 years.
